“Princesses do not marry Pigs.
That’s not the way life should be.”
Australian Contemporary Opera Company’s heart-warming and award-winning production of ‘The Enchanted Pig’ – A Musical Tale, is not to be missed! It’s a bit Bluebeard’s Castle, a bit Beauty and the Beast, but actually, in a league all of its own.
“Appeal for both wide-eyed adults and sophisticated children” – The New York Times
Drawing on Romanian, Norwegian and classical sources, the musical tale starts with King Hildebrand and his three daughters, the youngest of whom, Flora, is forced to marry a pig. Flora falls in love with Pig, and when he is abducted, she rushes off in pursuit of him, aided by the sun, moon, milky way and north wind.
Premiering in London in 2006, The Enchanted Pig was set to run for 3 weeks – and was extended for 10, before a season on Broadway in New York. This new production, by Gale Edwards, premiered to rave reviews at the Yarra Valley Opera Festival in 2019.
With a cast involving leading international and rising professional artists, The Enchanted Pig is a celebration of love and relationships – bursting with energy and joy.
This revival is led by director Linda Thompson, with Patrick Burns conducting the orchestra
